Ix Art Park is recruiting for artists to join our team of educators to facilitate the wide range of art making programs and opportunities currently running and in development. You will collaborate on ideation, curriculum development, facilitation, documentation and reflection for free art programming, intensive guided workshops, classes and camps. Programs may take place within the Looking Glass or outside in the park and should be designed to engage early childhood audience, kiddos, teenagers or adults. Teaching artists should be comfortable sharing their talent, skill, and technique as the situation requires. Teaching artists report to the Director of Programs.

Exigences

Core Responsibilities

Note: This list includes docent responsibilities as Teaching Artists will often be doubling as docents for the Looking Glass and the park.

  • Facilitation of art making opportunities across all areas of the Art Park programming, including preparation and clean-up.

  • Facilitation of art making opportunities across all areas of Looking Glass      programming, including preparation and clean-up

  • Co-teaching/assisting colleagues/Director of Programs in teaching/facilitation of all camps, classes and workshops across park and Looking Glass programming.

  • Cleaning and relative maintenance for areas of the park, as need be, including but not limited to the lobby, restrooms, The Looking Glass and art making/teaching spaces, indoor and out.

  • Collaboration with Director of Programs to create and facilitate new art making opportunities for the park, across all programs.

  • Organization, maintenance and care of all art making tools, materials and supplies and the spaces in which they are stored.

  • Organization, maintenance, care and clean-up of all back end workshop space, used for art making prep, etc.

As Docent:

  • Check that objects in the exhibition are in the correct place and exhibits are functioning properly.

  • Provide guests with information about the experience narrative and general information

  • Help ensure the safety of visitors.

  • Assist visitors where needed.

  • Report damage to the Director of Curation

  • Acknowledge, greet, and interact with guests throughout their visit

  • Respond to injuries and emergencies appropriately

  • Record maintenance issues.

  • Clean the exhibit, bathrooms, lobby, and piazza

  • Assist with crowd control on busy days

  • Follow special protocols for events including 21+ concerts/shows, including monitoring alcohol and access.

  • Perform job responsibilities with a creative flair that elevates the exhibition narrative

Essential Skills and Abilities:

  • A flexible schedule with the ability to work days, nights, and weekends

  • Excellent guest service skills

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Ability to confidently oversee/advise/guide a group of students/art makers

  • Ability to work in low light and blacklight environments for prolonged periods

  • Ability to self-manage, adhering to hours and quality standards

  • Good judgment in difficult and complicated guest/student situations

  • Ability to maintain an appropriate, level-headed demeanor in emergencies, difficult guest or student interactions, and interactions with personnel

  • Awareness and ability to serve as a positive representative of the Ix Art Park Foundation with the ability to understand and communicate the organization’s mission and values

  • Willingness/ability to participate and contribute to current curriculum and develop new curriculum

  • Willingness to participate in training and classes to develop new skills

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bilingualism/multilingualism

  • Skill/Experience as an a visual artist (illustrator, painter, sculptor, etc)

  • Skill/Experience as a filmmaker (direction, photography, post production)

  • Skill/Experience as a performer (actor, singer, dancer)

  • Genuine compassion for and interest in working with children/teens

  • Organization and self-motivation with a strong attention to detail

  • Excellent time management and organizational skills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Ability to collaborate with colleagues

  • Adaptability to changing needs and ability to take on new tasks

  • Agility and adaptability, based on the needs of a dynamic work environment and collaboration with diverse teams

Work Environment and Physical Demands: While arts education and accessible artmaking for guests is the primary goal/drive of this position, guest services and heightened awareness of hospitality is of equal import. Ix TAs are expected to be civil and accommodating to all Ix Art Park guests. As a teaching artist/docent, employees may be required to be in a stationary position, stand, crawl, and occasionally ascend and descend a ladder or stairs as needed. Employees may be required to lift up to 20lbs.

The employee will comply with company and OSHA standard workplace safety protocols. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.


Work Schedule

This position may have shifts that vary. An employee may be scheduled 5-10 hours a day, based on needs of the particular program.


Supervisory Responsibility

This position does not require supervisory responsibility.
